Slowlight — Privacy Policy

Last updated: 2 September 2026

The short version

Slowlight collects nothing. There is no account, no sign-in and no server. Every photograph you take stays on your iPhone unless you share it yourself.

What is collected

Nothing.

Not "nothing that identifies you", not "nothing beyond anonymous usage statistics". Nothing. There is no analytics library, no crash reporter, no attribution or advertising SDK, and no telemetry of any kind in the app.

There is also no server anywhere in this product. Slowlight has no backend to which data could be sent, so this is a property of how it is built rather than a promise about how it is operated.

What is stored on your device

Your photographs. Frames are captured, fused into the finished exposure, and saved to your own iOS photo library, with your permission. Slowlight also keeps its own copy of each finished exposure in the app's private container, so the Captures list can show it. Those copies are deleted when you delete the app.

Your settings and capture list. Which mode you last used, your manual exposure settings, and a list of the captures you have taken. This is stored as a single document encrypted with AES-256-GCM. The 256-bit key is generated on your device the first time you open the app and stored in the iOS Keychain, set to be available only on that one device and never to be included in a backup that could restore it elsewhere. The key never leaves your phone, and it is not known to us — there is no mechanism by which it could be.

Permissions

PermissionWhy
CameraTo capture the frames that make the exposure. This is the app's only function.
Photo library (add)To save your finished exposures where you can find them.
Photo library (read)Only to show exposures you already saved, inside the app. Nothing is uploaded.

You can revoke any of these in iOS Settings. Without camera access the app cannot take a photograph; the rest continues to work.

Purchases

The one-off purchase that removes the watermark is handled entirely by Apple through StoreKit. Slowlight asks Apple whether this Apple ID owns the unlock and receives yes or no. We never see your name, your Apple ID, your payment details or your purchase history — Apple does not share them with us and we have no server to receive them.

Apple's handling of that transaction is covered by Apple's Privacy Policy.

Children

Slowlight is intended for people aged 18 and over. It collects no data from anyone, of any age.

Data sharing and selling

None. There is nothing to share and nothing to sell, and there never will be — adding it would require building a server this product does not have.

Your rights

Data protection law gives you rights of access, correction, deletion and portability over personal data held about you. We hold no personal data about you, so there is nothing to access, correct, delete or export. The data on your device is yours: your photographs are in your photo library, and everything else is removed when you delete the app.

Changes

If this policy ever changes materially, the updated version will be published at this address with a new date, and the change will be noted in the app's release notes. A version of Slowlight that collected data would be a different product, and it would be described as such.
